Computers Designed for the Automation Sector

Computers are increasingly used in the automation of process, production and manufacturing lines throughout the manufacturing sector. As machinery becomes more automated and intelligent, these machines are being grouped together into ever growing networks and becoming part of fully managed, automated processes.

Captec’s supply of computing systems to the automation arena covers a very wide range of industries, form food processing to steel production. Whilst each has its own specific requirements, there are a number of common factors across these industries. These include the need for reliable, long life hardware and resilience to environmental extremes like cleaning chemicals and high pressure hoses used to clean equipment in food and beverage production, or heat and dust in heavy manufacturing industries, and many variations in between.

We have developed a number of products designed to meet these requirements, including general purpose computers in various physical formats, HMI computers suitable for food, beverage and pharmaceutical production, HMI computers for heavy industry environments, automation computers for SCADA applications, embedded computers, image processing computers and many more. In addition there are specific applications requiring their own solutions, such as security gateways between industrial networks and business IT networks, and industrial embedded servers for which Captec has also developed products.

Many of Captec’s standard automation computers have extensive expansion capabilities to accommodate I/O and interface cards, graphics cards, additional memory and increased storage capacity enabling them to be configured for almost any situation. They can also be supplied fully configured and integrated into racks.

Customers for Captec’s automation computer products are as varied as the industries they serve, and include ABB, Coopervision, Loma, Solarsoft, Marel, Sarclad, Ford, Rolls Royce, Nestle and many more.
